ABOUT PPNZ

PPNZ Music Licensing Limited ("PPNZ") is the New Zealand not-for-profit music licensing company established to obtain fair compensation for recording artists and record companies for their public performance rights.

Representing many thousands of artists and record companies both locally and internationally, PPNZ licenses recorded music for public performance, broadcast and new media/on-line (communication).

Due to PPNZ's extensive representation, music users are able to obtain a licence for the use of recorded music comprising many millions of recording tracks covering many genres of music and languages.

Please note that although PPNZ's members' repertoire is extensive (over 9 million tracks) there are some limited exceptions to the music that PPNZ's members represent. For example, some independent releases from overseas territories may not be covered by PPNZ's licence and the permission of the copyright owner of those sound recordings will need to be obtained directly by the person wishing to play them in public in New Zealand. If you have a question as to whether the recorded music that you are playing is covered by PPNZ's licence, please contact our licensing team on 0800 88 77 69 or email info@ppnz.co.nz. We are here to assist you.

PPNZ was first established in 1957 under the name Phonographic Performances (N.Z.) Limited and is a member of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI). IFPI was established in 1933 and has worked to have reproduction and performance rights recognised by a large number of countries throughout the world.

PPNZ is also a member of the Copyright Council of New Zealand.
